The trouble with the pins…

So I didn’t realize until after attaching all 99 acupuncture pins (oh yeah, I somehow lost one of the pins during the process of tying on the waxed cord) that they’ll clearly drag on the floor when hung on a wall. Not the most practical of situations. So the new idea that I’m attaching myself to includes drilling additional holes up both sides of the window to “house” the pins while not in use. Each will have a corresponding marker on the front identifying that pin.

Seven Churches – beginning to assemble parts

It’s funny how things change on their own. I feel like I’m working on a living being, I understand a little about how some musicians or authors talk about their work as “girls” and “boys” – there is a personality behind it. I think that has something to do with how incredibly therapeutic the process of creation can be; I was watching Top Chef this week, and Lisa (who I’m not a fan of) was commenting in the final episode about how when she’s stressed or upset, the food she prepares in that state won’t taste good. I know that sounds simple and a little unrefined, but I get it. I think it’s true. I think it’s about balance for me. I’m in a good place, but I think I’m probably in a good place because I’m pouring things into this painting that I’m not really able to articulate yet. When it’s done, I think there will be a moment of clarity where I’ll be capable of stepping back and saying, “Oh, yeah – this must be about that.”

Whatever my subconscious is trying to say in this piece, what I’m excited about is finally finding a way to say things from a negative point of view in a positive way. I hope that’s reflected in the end result. It’s not about judging the Christian church, it’s about challenging it.

I’ve started a new window. Working primarily on schematics up until now, I’m only recently beginning to prepare and assemble the basic parts for this piece. As I draw most of my inspiration for process from Marcel DuChamp’s Green Box for The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors, Even (I am in no way insinuating that I have even a fraction of that kind of genius by the way), I thought I’d try to keep track of the progress of my ideas and intentions as they are introduced to their visual representations.
